Cokstile (Norwegian bred) took the prestigious Grand Premi Delle Nazioni – Edy Gubellini (purse 275,000€, 2250 meters autostart) this weekend at Milano La Maura’s 1050 meter track.

The six year old son of Quite Easy-Joystile-Coktail Jet) was reined by Antonio DiNardo for trainer Gennaro Casillo to the 1.11.2kr timed victory, a record for the distance. Starting from post two Cokstile was in front for much of the journey and was an easy winner by three lengths over Vitruvio (4m Adrian Chip-Tigre OM-Zebu) teamed with Alessandro Gocciadoro who sent five trainees in this event. Vivid Wise As (4m Yankee Glide-Temple Blue Chip-Cantab Hall) took third money for V.P. Dell’Annunziato with fourth to the Jean Michel Bazire trainee Bel Avis (8g Ganymede-Gloria Maris-Workaholic) that Andrea Guzzinati catch drove.

The race honored the late Edy Gubellini that developed and piloted numerous classic winners and internationally renowned performers. He won the Lotteria Prize twice, the Italian Derby and the Nazioni (with Micron Hanover). The GP Nazioni has been of special history to special horses that graced its victory celebration (Icare IV, Quick Song, Timothy T and Wayne Eden among others).

It is relevant that today the post positions were drawn for the 60th edition of the International Trot scheduled for October 12 at Yonkers Raceway. Italy has a starter in Zacon Gio to be teamed with Roberto Vecchione for trainer Holger Ehlert.

He will start from post five in this race for a US$1 million purse. He was expected to battle Face Time Bourbon in the UET Finale at Helsinki before the International invitation. The lineups for the International and UET Finale are shown below.
