Southland trotter Dark Horse proved way too good when winning the Uncut Gems Trotters Classic in fast time at Addington last night.

Trained and driven by Nathan Williamson, the speedy harness racing mare looped the field at the 700m and won easing down by four lengths in a quick time of 3:16.9 for the 2600m.

Nathan had left Dark Horse at his father Phil's Oamaru base after the Jewels, and he said "she has been far more relaxed now than she was two weeks ago so I was hopeful she would be better this time around.”

Williamson was confident enough to advise Dark Horse’s large group of owners to pay a $2000 late entry fee to get into the race.

The bird cage was actually too small for the large group of owners that were on course to see Dark Horse win, and they had to shift onto the track for a photo opportunity after the winning of the race.
