The ITM Daffodil Race Night commences at 5.33pm tonight and will be the first Smokefree event Addington Raceway & Events Centre has held, and is the first Harness Racing event in the Daffodil Race days initiative.

“This is the first time Addington has partnered with the Cancer Society and we are thrilled to be able to make this inaugural event Smokefree. It is part of Addington’s commitment to support charities through the year. In the last race season we supported 15 charities” says Addington’s Acting Chief Executive Brian Thompson.

Cancer Society’s, Canterbury-West Coast Division Chief Executive Elizabeth Chesterman commented “With the Cancer Society’s focus on making New Zealand Smokefree by 2025, we are delighted that Addington has recognised the importance of this goal and designated the course Smokefree for this race night”.

Anyone found smoking by ‘Smokefree Stipendiary Stewards’ at Addington, will be asked to make a donation to the Cancer Society for their breach of the Smokefree rule.

Addington sees this is an ongoing partnership with the Cancer Society and has therefore chosen them to be one of their charities of choice in the lead up to Addington’s Cup Week.

“We are excited that all the profits from the sale of our Dexter Dunn’s bobblehead celebrating his 2000 wins will be donated to the Cancer Society. Many New Zealanders are in some way affected by cancer, and Addington along with Dexter hope to raise awareness and money for this amazing cause.

We are proud to be a part of the community that supports the Cancer Society” says Thompson. Dexter Dunn sees this charity as a great fit for the bobbleheads. “If I can assist the Cancer Society in any way, I am thrilled to do so. Particularly because I know people that have been affected by cancer. So, every little bit helps.”

Tonight will be the first race night the Dexter Dunn Bobbleheads will be available. They can also be purchased online at
