Robyn Garrett, aged 62 passed away yesterday after a battle with Cancer. Robyn was a keen harness follower and was involved in harness racing throughout her entire life, even taking out a training license and training a winner on her own accord in Dalecraft in 1979.

A much loved sister of top trainer Bruce Negus and a daughter of Bob Negus and Heather Tangye.

Robyn was well known as the breeder of Willie Win (Good Chase - Spangle) an 8 race winner who won the 1972 NZ Derby beating crack pacer Young Quinn in the process.

She also raced Good Pep and more recently Em Ay who has won two races this season.

She was well known for working with John Boyd branding foals and was a pioneer with the woman drivers in the early days before licenses were in place. These races were called The Powder Puff Derbies and were non tote races..

She was well known as a very happy person with many friends in the Industry.

Robyn Garrett (then Negus) was 15 when she took over Spangle for $40, with Willie Win in embryo. Robyn had to give special attention to rearing the elderly mare and foal.
