DOVER, Del --- Mister Virgin proved too much for the $17,500 Claiming ranks while Filled Donut romped in the $12,000 feature trot with a steady drizzle on a harness racing Monday at Dover Downs.

Tony Morgan continued with a hot hand driving Mister Virgin to his fourth consecutive visit to the winner's circle scoring a victory in the day's top pace. The 1:51.4 win was the first of two for Morgan, trainer Brooks Gray and owner Ron Davis. Mister Virgin took the front early and was in control the rest of the mile for his second victory in the new Year. Myell's Rockstar (Tim Tetrick) stalked the winner for most of the mile and finished second with Carracci Hanover (Eddie Davis Jr.) third.

Filled Donut gained the lead early and led seven rivals home in 1:54.1 winning the $12,000 feature trot for his second win in his last three in a new lifetime fastest. Eric Ell conditions the Andover Hall-Miss Gertrude gelding for Ken Wood, Bill Dittmar, Steve Iaquinta and Lee Walls. Sheer Assault (Tetrick) raced second with Monteverdi (Russell Foster) the show horse.

Drivers Tony Morgan, Vic Kirby, Art Stafford Jr., Eddie Davis Jr., trainers Eric Ell and Brooks Gray, and owners Ron Davis, Wood, Dittmar and Iaquinta, all had double wins on the card.


Celebrity Pegasus, winner of last week’s $25,000 Open trot and newcomer Rock Of Cashel lead a fast octet of trotters in the Tuesday, Jan. 10 feature  at Dover Downs. Post time is 4:30 p.m. 

Celebrity Pegasus, a 13-time winner last year, is owned by Ken Wood, Bill Dittmar, Steve Iaquinta and Minisink Farms and is trained by Eric Ell races with Art Stafford Jr. his regular driver. The second and third-place finishers last time, 

Kanthaka, with Tim Tetrick, racing for owners Chris Beaver and RBH Ventures, and Bamond Racing’s Crazshana driven by Ross Wolfenden, start from post 2 and 3 respectively.

Jeff Ruch’s Rock Of Cashel with Corey Callahan comes in from two Meadowlands feature trot wins. Since early meet, Theresademoninme and Jonathan Roberts have an impressive record for owners Mike Casalino and trainer Dylan Davis. Thereademoninme has three wins and three seconds in his last eight races. He has been fourth in his last two outings and drew the rail.

Jim Moore’s Royal Becca J with Jack Parker Jr. steps up in company after being second losing by a nose last time but drew post 8 in this one, Bob Shahan and Jimmy and Ashley Parsons’ I Like My Boss finished last month strongly with Allan Davis in the bike and Hollywood Highway, owned by Scott Dillon and CTC Stable will be handled by Corey Callahan completes the lineup.

A wide-open $13,500 Winners trot heads the undercard. Three starters in the nine-horse field ended 2017 with wins, John DeVito’s My Cherry Pie (Jonathan Roberts), Perseverance (Stafford Jr.) racing for Wood, Dittmar, Iaqinta and Tribbett Racing, and Euro Gap (Callahan) owned by Howard and Josh Kauffman.

Dover Downs features a 50-cent Pick 5 wager starting with the 2nd race through the 6th. A late daily double is carded for the 12th and 13th races.
