Zac bags himself a hatrick at Tauherenikau

Zac Butcher had his most successful day in the sulky when bagging three winners at the seven-race Wairarapa Harness Racing Club's meeting at Tauherenikau today (Friday). The talented 17-year-old is only in his second season of driving after having just two drives in 2007-2008.

Butcher won the second, fourth and sixth races today behind the Michelle Wallis trained Benromach; the Tony Shaw trained Trusty Courage; and the John Peary trained Soaring Falcon.

Courage Under Fire gelding, Trusty Courage was the most impressive winner today. He also achieved the quickest winning mile rate of the day (2:03.3) when claiming the Margin Graphics Mobile for one and two win pacers. He paced the 2000m mobile in 2:33. FUnny Boy (Peter Ferguson) and Mystical Maddie (Scott Dickson) were second and third.

It was Shaw's second win since suffering an horrific accident at Alexandra Park in March last last year. Trusty Courage has now won three of his 22 starts and placed in four others for $26,725 in stakes.also claimed the feature event, the Masterton Motor Lodge Mobile for two-to-four win pacers with Benromach.

The Tinted Cloud 7-year-old gelding got home by a head and half a head over Unattached (Gene Robb) and The Other Day (David Butt). The winning time for the 200m mobile was 2:35 - mile rate: 2:04.7.

Butcher, the eldest son of multiple Group One-winning driver David and grandson of legendary trainer, John, has now had seven wins and 10 placings from 82 career drives. The former St John's (Hamilton) student, who is also a gifted rugby player and cricket, has an enormous future in harness racing.

Race 2: The Michelle Wallis trained Benromach (Zac Butcher).

Race 3: The Lew Driver trained President's Doll (Stephen Doody).

Race 4: The Tony Shaw trained Trusty Courage (Zac Butcher).

Race 5: The Fred MItchell trained Pennys A Flyin (Scott Dickson).

Race 6: The John Peary trained Soaring Falcon (Zac Butcher).

Race 7: The Andrew and Lynn Neal trained Dr Who (Lynn Neal).
