WEST CORK, UK - After a 17 year lapse harness racing returned to the Fishers Cross grass oval on Sunday.

The venue which has the Atlantic Ocean as a back drop provided some fantastic fare and the promoter of the event, Liam O Reagan, saw his own runner, I Told You So, winning the opener at Fishers Cross.

This scribe was welcomed to the venue by 92-year-old Denis O'Donovan, a member of the committee, and the look of pride on his face just showed how proud the locals were of the return of racing to this tiny hamlet.

I Told You so has knocked on the door in his last few runs and got his day in the sun when landing the spoils in the Grade G & G1 pace .

Mike Goggin Jnr sent this son of Back In The Saddle pan to the front and despite the late rally from Meadowbranch Matt was not for catching .

The O'Reagan and Bennett families flooded the presentation area to welcome home the winner.

Cruise Howard bounced back to winning ways in the top Grade Pace.

Hail Spartacus and LLywns Allstar set the early fractions on this undulating track. With three furlongs to pace Hail Spartacus hit the front but Timmy O'Leary was waiting in "the long Grass" with cruise Howard and won by two lengths.

Chris O'Reilly who heads of to the UK on Monday for the USA VS IRELAND /UK international challenge saw his Rhyds Panache take out an ultra competitive on saddle pace.

Cian O'Reilly, a cousin of the winning owner, wasn't waiting about on the son of The One Night Pan and had 6 lengths in hand at the finish .

Springhill Doyle was another to win from the front. After an early battle with Mr Security he had things all his own way and stayed on well to win by three lengths from Brywins Picasso .

Rhyds Dilemma, imported from the UK in the winter, has been a model of consistency for new owner Derry McCarthy and he collected another win in the Grade E & D Pace. Rokocoko led early doors but was passed by the winner heading out on the final circuit and two lengths was the winning margin .

Cupidon De Breteil followed up on his Bandon win when taking the Le Trot.

Un Boss tried to make all but Mike Kelleher produced the imposing French trotter to run out a three length winner.

The three day Ballabuidhe festival which starts next Sunday, is next on the menu and signals the start of the busiest month of the year in the Irish Harness Racing Season
