The always popular Meadowlands Championship Meet Survival Challenge powered by 123Racing is back for the 2019 Championship Meet. Cash prizes and World Harness Handicapping Championship seats are up for grabs in this online competition which begins Friday, May 3rd. Registration is now open. Trackmaster will provide Platinum Past Performances for each night of the contest. The game covers the Meadowlands' Championship Meet, featuring millions in stakes races and the best pacers and trotters in the sport. The game concludes on Hambletonian Day, Saturday, August 3, 2019. The winner is determined by the highest total bankroll at the end of the Challenge based on a $2 "across the board" wager [win, place and show] on selections for three designated races each program. However, to continue in the game, entrants have to "survive" by finishing in-the-money [first through third] with at least one of their selections each day. Failing to do so or not making selections knocks the player out of the game. To aid in the player's survival one "lucky horseshoe" is given. The lucky horseshoe is a "free pass" given to all Challenge participants that allows the player to survive if he does not make selections for a race card or all three of his selections fail to hit the board. The grand prize is $1,000 & 2020 WHHC Spot The second-place prize is $500 & 2020 WHHC Spot The third-place prize is $250 & 2020 WHHC Spot Most Winners prize is $250 The contest is open to legal residents of the United States and Canada 18 years and older, and all selections must be made through the format provided on the Survival Challenge website page. No selections will be accepted by phone, fax, e-mail or any other means. Trackmaster Platinum Past performances for the three designated races will be provided through the game board. The deadline for selections each day is 30 minutes before 7:15 p.m. post time for the first race. The only exception being Hambletonian Day, Saturday, August 3 [post time 12 noon]. After 30 minutes to post, all selections are final. To set up a username and password, and for more of the contest rules, visit www.survival-challenge.com.   Rachel Ryan

Russell Slader of Nutley, NJ captured the $43,200 grand prize in the 2019 World Harness Handicapping Championship presented by DerbyWars.com on Saturday, April 13 at Meadowlands Racing & Entertainment. Slader finished the tournament with a $2,518 bankroll to top the field of 108 players from across North America who competed for $108,000 in prize money. Slader won his seat via the April 11th DerbyWars.com qualifier. This was the largest prize pool ever offered for the WHHC. The WHHC contest format required contestants to bet 10 races: eight Meadowlands races of their choice, plus one mandatory race each from Buffalo Raceway and the Meadowlands. Bets had to meet a $30 minimum, $100 maximum per race. Contestants could only bet one horse per race and wagers could either be win, place, show or a combination of the three. Slader cashed on five of his ten bets and steadily moved up the leader board through the night. He cashed on the mandatory sixth race from Buffalo for $96 with a $30 Win wager on #2 (Harry Hoo N) and again on the fifth race at the Meadowlands for $264 with $60 to Win on #8 (JK Parlay). His biggest score came from a $40 Win & Place wager on #3 (Sweet Rock) in the Meadowlands eighth race which put him in third place. Russell cashed on a $50 Win & Place wager on #9 (Prophet Blue Chip) in the Meadowlands twelfth race for $495 putting him in first place with a $1,763 bankroll with one race remaining. He solidified his win with a $855 score in race 13 with a $50 Win & Place wager on #10 (Camwiser). Slader finished with a final bankroll of $2,518, taking home the $43,200 grand prize. Jim Videtic, the 2018 WHHC champion, was leading for the majority of the contest and held both second and third place (he bought in for 2 spots) with two races remaining. Videtic cashed for $1,150 in race 13 on a $100 to Win on Camwiser to finish in second place. His second entry held on for seventh place with $1,270 in bankroll. The 2018 champ walked away with $23,760 in total prize money. DerbyWars.com sponsored the 2019 World Harness Handicapping Championship and held weekly online qualifiers throughout 2019. In addition to DerbyWars.com and the Meadowlands, the following partner outlets sent players to compete in the 2019 WHHC: Buffalo Raceway, Vernon Downs, Tioga Downs, Standardbred Canada, Hawthorne, Rosecroft and TVG/Betfair. Country is taking over Meadowlands Racing & Entertainment on Saturday, June 15th when the multi-platinum selling duo, Thompson Square takes the stage. With romantically charged #1 hits like "Are You Gonna Kiss Me Or Not" and "If I Didn't Have You," two Grammy nominations and honors as Vocal Duo of the Year from both the ACM and CMA Awards, Country duo Thompson Square's career has been the stuff dreams are made of. Brought together by love and undeniable talent, Keifer and Shawna each moved to Nashville separately but soon met while competing against one another in a local singing competition. They formed Thompson Square as complete unknowns, taking the Country scene by storm with an organic vocal blend that harkened back to the duets of icons like Johnny Cash and June Carter. Following the release of their 2X Grammy-nominated, double-Platinum breakout "Are You Gonna Kiss Me Or Not," the Thompsons have been riding a wave of success that continues to this day, touring with superstars like Jason Aldean, Lady Antebellum and Luke Bryan and racking up chart topping Country-radio favorites like the devoted "I Got You" and the flirty "Everything I Shouldn't Be Thinking About." With their third studio album, Masterpiece, the husband-and-wife team of Keifer and Shawna Thompson is back and at the top of their game, offering up a fresh batch of poetic and extremely personal Country music. "We are excited to bring such a Country power-house to the racetrack," stated Jason Settlemoir, COO & GM of Meadowlands Racing & Entertainment. "We know there are thousands of Country fans in our area and we hope they all come out for an evening of great music and racing." Doors for the show open at 2:30 p.m. with the Jason Wicks Band getting the party started at 4 p.m. The headliner, Thompson Square will electrify the crowd beginning at 6 p.m. The party continues with live racing at 7:15 p.m. and Lauren Davidson on the stage.   Want to Go?: -What: Thompson Square   -When: Saturday, June 15, 2019   -Where: Meadowlands Racing & Entertainment, 1 Racetrack Drive, East Rutherford, NJ   -Tickets: $20 in advance, $30 at the door.
